Green Tea Slows Prostate Cancer Significantly - Recent Study Shows

In a recent study by the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center of the LSU Health Sciences Center, researchers found that the active components in green tea significantly reduced prostate cancer markers in men who consumed it. These markers are related to prostate cancer progression, showing that the compounds in green tea may be helpful in the prevention and treatment of this type of cancer.

There are many beneficial compounds found in green tea, but the researchers in this study focused on a substance known as "Polyphenon E." Polyphenon E is a trademarked product created by extracting and concentrating the beneficial antioxidants in green tea. This study involved 26 men ranging from 41-72 years of age who were given 4 capsules of Polyphenon E, daily, for an average of 34.5 days. The 4 capsules were roughly equivalent to the antioxidants in 12 cups of green tea.


There are many other researchers from all over the world looking into the use of green tea compounds for cancer treatment and prevention. Researchers like James A. Cardelli, Ph.D., the professor and research director at the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center believes that this green tea substance shows promise for cancer patients. These same researchers are now teaming up with scientists from Columbia University in New York to study these compounds for breast cancer.

Though extensive research is needed for "conclusive" evidence in general, Dr. Budwig had been collecting information for decades based on the treatment outcomes of her many patients. Budwig's methods included vast amounts of natural, plant-based antioxidants from sources like green tea, as well as vegetable and fruit juices.
